Top 10 Books for Nerdy Girls to Read on Valentine's Day

"Reading a great novel gives the same feeling
you have when you fall in love."
(Luigina Sgarro)

Hello lovely readers,
so today I am here with a list of books to read on Valentine's Day. Now, even though I am single for who-cares-how-long, I love Valentine's Day. I don't think it's pathetic like many other people. And I am really happy for all of you who have someone to celebrate with. Go you! But it doesn't mean that us singles can't have a little bit of fun as well. I am sure that everybody has a different idea of a fun evening. But for me - very unsurprisingly - it means staying in pyjama in my quiet room, listening to a good music and painting my nails red. And all that with a good book and some hot tea or chocolate by my side. If you feel like celebrating love by reading too, I made a list of really amazing books full of romance that you can choose from in case you're still wondering about what to read...

  • Just One Day by Gayle Forman - You guys must be really bored by my repeating myself again and again and saying that I love this book. But I really, truly do. So in case you haven't read it yet, please give it a try. It's such a wonderful story about self discovery, importance of traveling and of course about love. If you're a romantic who enjoy a little bit of melancholy, you're gonna fall head over heels with this story just like I have...
  • Persuasion by Jane Austen - If you're in a mood for something more classical but by no means less melancholic, Persuasion is the right book for you. The story about Captain Wentworth and Anne Elliot is perfect for everybody who need a reassurance that love can last forever if it's entrusted into the right hands...
  • Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell - Well, I would recommend to read every book by Rainbow Rowell, but if I had to choose just one, then it had to be Eleanor & Park. It's one of the greatest love stories I've ever read. But it's not at all cheesy. I don't care what other people say. It is not a fiction, okay? I really believe that this kind of love does exist because otherwise, well, it wouldn't be a true love...
  • The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith - This book is really special to me. I remember I went into it without any expectations, but it turned out to be one of my all time favorite books. Do you know how you recognize a really special book? When you can remember it after many years with the same heartwarming feeling you felt for the first time. I've read many books that I truly enjoyed while reading them, but about which I forgot after a little while. This one, however, stayed with me for more than four years...
  • Be Careful What You Wish For by Alexandra Potter - This book I've read even more years ago, and just like the one mentioned above, it stayed with me regardless. I love Alexandra Potter, her books remind me of Bridget Jones's Diaries a little bit. So if you like that kind of humor, definitely try her books. I am always laughing out loud when I read Alexandra Potter, but she also makes me feel in love. Every of her books is as if meant for reading on Valentine's Day, but Be Careful What You Wish For is my absolute favourite...
  • So Bright and Delicate (Love Letters and Poems to Fanny Brawne) by John Keats - In case you feel like reading poetry while thinking about your own love life, I would recommend a collection of poems and love letters that John Keats had written to Fanny Brawne. It's one of the most beautiful poetry I've read so far. And if you would like to spend your evening immersed even more into a romance, you can also watch Bright Star and learn a little bit more about this epic love story...
  • Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma - If you don't feel like reading lovey dovey stories at all, you might want to try Forbidden, which is a love story between brother and sister who are brought together by conjoint passionate feelings and tragic conditions of their family situation. I have goosebumps whenever I remember this book. It's very unconventional but rather compelling love story...
  • The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen - This list wouldn't be complete hadn't I mentioned at least one book by Sarah Dessen. She's the queen of contemporary YA genre in my opinion. And I love her books entirely. You might know that I've established Sarah Dessen Book Club this year, which you're more than welcome to join in. The book for this month is Just Listen, which is really amazing and powerful story. But for this occasion I would recommend my possibly favourite book by her, which is The Truth About Forever. It's such a sweet story full of so many beautiful thoughts and truths. Oh, I can't wait to re-read it...
  • Off the Page by Jodi Picoult & Samantha Van Leer - I've just finished this book. It's a sequel to Between the Lines, but you can read it as a stand alone, if you want. It tells a story about Delilah who falls in love with a prince Oliver from a fairy tale book. She helps him escape his prison behind the pages, but can he really survive in her world? And even more importantly, is their love strong enough for that? Well, read this awesomely funny and sweet book and find out for yourself...
  • Delirium by Lauren Oliver - Another really special book to me is Delirium. I think it's a very unique story about love and what would our world look like without it. I've never read anything like that before. And even though it's been, like, five years since I've read it, I still remember every detail of the story because, well, I can't forget it. I am sure that most of you, guys, have read it already. But if not, definitely pick it up. You won't regret it, I trust...

"I lay on the bed and lost myself in the stories.
Books were safer than other people anyway."
(Neil Gaiman)

    1. Sama v tom určitě nejsi. Užívej si toho, jak to je teď. Protože se možná ani nenaděješ a na čtení už kvůli nějakému princi vůbec nebudeš mít čas... :-)
